The Richmond and Twickenham Photographic Society is one of the oldest Photographic Societies in the country, having been formed in 1890, as the Richmond Amateur Photographic Society. The name was changed to Richmond Camera Club in 1893 to reflect the fact that the membership included professionals as well as amateurs. Between 1900 and 1915 a regular annual exhibition was held.  The exhibition resumed in 1920 and has continued every year since, with the exception of 1943.  The Club amalgamated with the Twickenham Photographic Society in 1946, with the Society finally settling on its present title in 1965.

Five of the Society's Members have become Presidents of the Royal Photographic Society. Many of our members are Licenciates, Associates or Fellows of the Royal Photographic Society and hold other photographic disctinctions.

We are members of the Surrey Photographic Association (SPA) and through them we are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB).  We participate in SPA events and competitions.  Links to these and other associations can be found on our Links page

The Society has members whose interests and skills range through all aspects of photography.  They are very happy to give advice to fellow members wishing to improve their skills.  We invite you to select one or two events from our programme and come along and sample what we do. New members are important to us and you will be certain of a warm and friendly welcome.

We meet each Thursday at 8.00pm throughout the year, except in July, August and around Easter and Christmas, at Kew Community Centre, Upper Hall, The Avenue, Kew, Richmond (see Venues).  In addition to the many well known speakers for illustrated talks and demonstrations, and other special events, we have a number of annual internal competitions and awards. We encourage members to enter images for our monthly Print, Slide and Digital competition which takes place on the last Thursday of each month, with analysis and scores awarded by an external judge.  The scores are aggregated towards Annual awards.

There are further, monthly meetings, normally on Mondays or Tuesdays at 8:00 pm, for Specialist Groups in the Richmond and Kew area.  These Groups, which are both informal and informative, include:

In additon to the above we are currently running studio tuition sessions (pre-registered members only).

Please see our Programme and Venues for further details of dates and  locations.
