Digital Group

Group meetings

The Digital Group caters for photographers of all skills and experiences, from those with years of experience of film and darkroom photography, who now want to apply their skills digitally, to those who have only just picked up a camera seriously. We also cater for those with considerable skills in the taking and manipulating of digital photographs.

We try to cover all aspects of digital photography often, but not exclusively, basing our discussion on PhotoShop.

Most evenings follow the same general format, we begin with a discussion on a topic such as levels or layers, which everyone should benefit from - especially those relatively new to the digital world. We then have a break, during which we get to meet each other.

After the break we often delve into a more difficult topic such as channels or colour space - even if this is stretching the skills of some of the group, it helps get a deeper understanding of what is possible.

We also try to get to do something a little more light-hearted such as putting a train into a picture of bare railway tracks.

We have had special talks from people outside the Society who have developed particular digital techniques.

We do not have a formal curriculum. Instead we chose amongst ourselves what we want to go through.

Dealing with topics in this group way means that we can all help each other.

It's great fun and it's very informal, come and join in.
