Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Aims

We have a wealth of experience and expertise in the club. Our special interest group meetings encourage members to:

  • exchange ideas
  • to support and learn from one another
  • experience a range of different genres

Members are usually invited to share a few images for discussion and comment on a pre-set monthly theme.

Our groups

Creative Eyes

Meets every third Monday of the month, run by Bob Fisher.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you will be welcome. We are all about:

  • creativity
  • inspiration
  • imagination

We have one overriding rule: there are no rules!

Members are given two subject themes each month to inspire their photography and creativity. Interpretation of the theme is entirely down to the individual photographer.

Infrared Group

Meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm, led by Susi Petherick.

The group has a great mix of people very experienced in infrared photography and others who have recently had a camera converted. The group is very supportive and keen to share ideas and expertise. We have a monthly challenge. There’s always something to learn. We encourage cooperation and experimentation.

Monochrome and Pictorial groups

Held alternately on the fourth Tuesday of the month, run by John Phillips.

Members are encouraged to refine their work and acquire the attention necessary to make a successful photograph. Reviews often include post-processing. Includes all genres. All abilities welcome from beginner to external competition standard.

Nature Group

Held first Tuesday of the month, run by Peter Jones and Jocelyn Edwards.

Our recently reformed Nature Group explores all types of fauna and flora imagery.

You can see some of the group's photography on our Flickr page.

Post-processing

Held second Tuesday of the month, run by John Philips.

We look at everything you can do with your images once you have finished with the camera. You will always learn something!

We aim to inspire club members to get the most out of their images by:

  • doing different things with them
  • examining many different editing techniques across a range of software tools
  • encouraging members to talk about images they have shown in internal and external competitions.

Awards and Distinctions

Held quarterly on Tuesday evenings. Ann Healey guides members interested in achieving distinctions with the Royal Photographic Society  (RPS) and the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain* or accreditations in national and international salons.

*We are affiliated with the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain as a member of the Surrey Photographic Association.
