RTPS Photographic Exhibition 2023

Immerse yourself in the wonderful diversity of photography

RTPS Annual Exhibition 2023
Landmark Arts Centre 7-16 April 2023
Daily 10 am – 4 pm, admission £3 (children free)

From portraiture to landscape, architecture to wildlife and fine art to street photography, Richmond and Twickenham Photographic Society’s annual exhibition celebrates the wonderful diversity of photography.

Hundreds of images will be on display at the Landmark Arts Centre in Ferry Road, Teddington, from 7 to 16 April with the Royal Photographic Society’s Visual Art Group once more joining the event with its 2023 exhibition. Pupils from St. Catherine’s School for Girls in Twickenham will also be showcasing their work.

New this year will be four workshops with street fashion photographer John Phillips on 13 and 15 April giving practical advice on the use of on and off camera flash. There will also be a demonstration on 8 April from award-winning fine art flower photographer Jocelyn Horsfall showing how you can create startling designs and patterns using the cyanotype printing process (or sun printing as it is often known). The charge is £5 per session but this then gives you free entry to the exhibition, (see below to book).

The exhibition will be opened by Simon Street who is one of RTPS’s more decorated members, this year gaining his 7th Fellowship with the Royal Photographic Society. their highest distinction. Of the 11,000 RPS members worldwide, less than 600 have achieved a Fellowship and it is thought that only one other has seven. No mean feat when you consider that Simon picked up his first digital camera just six years ago. Simon’s striking black and white images will be on display at the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10 am to 4 pm 7-16 April including during the Easter Bank Holidays, with a £3.00 admission charge (children free).

Visitors have the opportunity to buy exhibits and are also encouraged to vote for their favourite image. Tea and coffee will be available in the Landmark café where visitors can watch an additional display of digital images.  A selection of greetings cards and second-hand photographic books and equipment will also be available to buy.

Richmond & Twickenham PS is a friendly group of photography enthusiasts meeting every Thursday evening in Kew with additional Special Interest Groups where members come together to exchange ideas, and support and learn from one another in a range of different genres. The club is open to beginners and experienced photographers; new members are always welcome.

RTPS Exhibition Cyanotype Demo & Flash Workshops

Brilliance in Blue

11-12pm  Saturday 8 April – Cyanotype Demonstration with Jocelyn Horsfall. Cost: £5 with hand out sheet. (limited to 20 places)

Discover the beautiful world of cyanotypes with award winning fine art flower photographer Jocelyn Horsfall (www.jocelynhorsfall.com).

Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography and are relatively easy to produce. The process involves coating paper with two iron based chemical solutions.  When exposed to sunlight or put under a UV lamp, they react to create a deep-blue hue. By placing objects on the paper such as flowers and foliage and blocking out the light in certain areas you can create startling designs and patterns. Jocelyn will show how the addition of watery bubbles, salt crystals and spices can give a more textured and abstract impression.  It’s quite a simple process and great fun - although a little unpredictable!

An understanding of flash can give a photographer control over the lighting of a scene, either augmenting or overriding the ambient light. But many amateurs find flash intimidating, unsure where to begin, discouraged by first attempts using a pop-up flash, they make do with available light whenever possible. Sign up to one of these workshops and let John help take your photography to the next level. Please bring your camera (and a flash if you have one).

The above events will take place inside the Richmond & Twickenham Photographic Society’s Exhibition at the Landmark Arts Centre in Ferry Road, Teddington TW11 9NN.  Signing up to an event gives you free entry to the RTPS exhibition where several hundred photographs will be on display; just show your Eventbrite ticket on the door.
