Infrared Group

Meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm, led by Susi Petherick.

The group has a great mix of people very experienced in infrared photography and others who have recently had a camera converted. The group is very supportive and keen to share ideas and expertise: there’s always something to learn. We encourage cooperation and experimentation.

The group has a monthly challenge.

How the group works

Group Facilitator Susi explains:

“Our Infrared Special Interest Group has been in existence for four years. and I have been lucky enough to be the facilitator all along, with all members very willingly helping out in different ways.

“It’s a very active, well-attended group with lots of enthusiasm and commitment. We regularly have up to 20 members meeting for trips away and 16 for Zoom catch-up meetings.

“We exist to offer and receive peer support to further develop our skills and understanding in all things infrared.

“At times, we have had input from group members and external experts to increase our processing of colour and black and white infrared images.

“In the last 24 months, we have moved from monthly meetings to a programme of day and weekend trips and meetings between times to share images taken at these times. In 2025, it was a weekend in Oxford and in May 2026, a weekend in Brighton, all 18 of us.

“Between meals and ice creams and coffee stops, lots of photos get taken. Between the weekend trips, we have day trips to all sorts of places, all organised by members of the group: Paddington Basin, Bushey Park, Leonardslee, and Greenwich were all very popular.

“Everyone is welcome to any of our meetings or trips – from the very inexperienced to the very experienced. It’s a warm, supportive and fun group.

“Why not give us a try?”
